Give Big Dogs A Break! Manifesto

The manifesto of Give Big Dogs a Break! is to encourage pet friendly hotels to remove restrictions based on size.

As you are likely aware, many pet friendly hotels have policies in place that impose restrictions on the size of pets that are welcomed. The maximum size varies from hotel to hotel, but many places only accept pets smaller than 25 pounds, and a pet over 40 pounds will almost certainly fall outside the acceptable size.

We believe size should not be a factor in deciding which pets are appropriate hotel guests. Other factors, such as training, temperament and level of socialization are far more indicative of a well-behaved pet. By instituting alternative policies, such as cleaning charges and crating requirements, hotels can welcome large dogs and avoid the undesirable outcomes their weight restrictions are designed to prevent.

This change will require a relationship of mutual respect and cooperation between pet owners and business proprietors. It is imperative that pet owners act responsibly by properly training their pets and respecting the policies in effect at the places they visit. We are partners in this movement to include our pets in our lives, and we can all enjoy the results, if we simply work together.
